Prince Harry Just Wants to Be Called Harry Now
Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their plans to step back from their senior positions in the royal family back in January, numerous discussions have taken place about their titles moving forward.
In the end, it was decided that while they will retain the titles of His and Her Royal Highness, they "will no longer actively use their HRH titles as they will no longer be working members of the family as of Spring 2020."
Harry and Meghan will also give up the use of the brand name Sussex Royal "given the specific UK government rules surrounding use of the word ‘Royal.’" But after the transition, which will take place on March 31, they will keep their titles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry will remain just that, Prince Harry.
However, at an ecotourism summit today in Scotland, the Duke dropped the formality altogether, and asked for people to simply call him "Harry."
Ayesha Hazarike, who hosted the program today, shared the news while introducing the royal to give the opening remarks at the event, which was put on in partnership with Harry's sustainable travel initiative, Travalyst.
“He wants to say a few words to kick start the day and he’s made it clear that we are all just to call him ‘Harry,'” Hazarika said. “So, ladies and gentlemen please give a big Scottish welcome to Harry.”
This is the first of several appearances for Harry in the days to come. It's unclear if Meghan is back in the UK at this point, but she also has a schedule of public engagements in early March, including the Commonwealth Day Service, where the Sussexes will publicly reunite with the Cambridges.
