Psych 2: Lassie Come Home casts Richard Schiff, staging a West Wing reunion
Richard Schiff is checking into Psych 2: Lassie Come Home.
EW has confirmed that Schiff will appear the forthcoming Psych: The Movie sequel, reuniting him with his The West Wing costar Dulé Hill, one of half Psych’s main duo. Schiff will play Dr. Hirsch, the founder of a high-end private medical recovery center whose no-nonsense approach is in conflict with most things Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Hill) do.
Does Dr. Hirsch have something to do with the movie’s inciting incident? In Psych 2, Shawn and Gus return to Santa Barbara, Calif., their old stomping ground for eight seasons, after Police Chief Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) is attacked and almost dies. As Lassie recuperates, he starts seeing “impossible happenings around his recovery clinic,” according to the official synopsis. “Shawn and Gus return to Lassie’s side in Santa Barbara and are forced to navigate the personal, the professional, and possibly the supernatural. Separated from their new lives in San Francisco, our heroes find themselves unwelcome in their old stomping grounds as they secretly untangle a twisted case without the benefit of the police, their loved ones, or the quality sourdough bakeries of the Bay Area. What they uncover will change the course of their relationships forever.”
Schiff isn’t the only familiar face Shawn, Gus, and Lassie will encounter at the recovery clinic. Scrubs’ Sarah Chalke will play Nurse Dolores, Lassiter’s primary caregiver and protector who forms an immediate bond with Gus. A Different World’s Kadeem Hardison will appear as Wilkerson, a patient whose condition has worsened since his arrival.
Furthermore, Roday’s A Million Little Things costar Allison Miller is set to play Maisie, an entrepreneur with a fat trust fund and a new business idea every week, the most recent of which impedes Shawn and Gus’ investigational plans.
Original Psych cast members Maggie Lawson, Kirsten Nelson, and Corbin Bernsen will also star in the film, which is set to premiere on NBCUniversal’s new streaming service Peacock later this year instead of USA Network.
