Punisher returns in Stan Lee-narrated Defenders teaser

Marvel's The Punisher reveals clues in cryptic tweets·Entertainment Weekly

Guess who made it just in time for San Diego Comic-Con. The first footage of Frank Castle’s return as The Punisher arrived as an added bonus to the latest Marvel Netflix teaser, narrated by Marvel legend Stan Lee and featuring clips from The Defenders.

“Looks like I arrived just in time,” Frank, played by The Walking Dead veteran Jon Bernthal, says in the promo. Already fans will note the character’s beat-up look and the bullet holes in his armor. Frank is also sporting an updated twist on his signature skull sigil, which again appears in a motion graphic for Marvel’s The Punisher (shown below).

EW has confirmed the footage here is the first snippet from the character’s standalone series, announced at New York Comic-Con last year. Deborah Ann Woll will be reprising her role of Karen Page within a cast that includes Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, and Michael Nathanson.

Punisher will not be making an appearance in The Defenders, which is already jam packed with Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Iron Fist (Finn Jones), Elektra (Elodie Yung), a mysterious villain named Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and many more figures from the Marvel universe.

Netflix is bringing out some of its stars for a Defenders panel at San Diego Comic-Con this Friday, but maybe there will be some Punisher peeps among the “surprise guests” promised for the event.

The Defenders will premiere on Aug. 18, while The Punisher will bow this fall. Watch the latest teaser for these offerings above.
