Quincy serial rape suspect is released on bail
BOSTON – The former State Street executive from Quincy who is charged with raping four women – three of them teenagers – between 2003 and 2006 walked out of Boston Municipal Court on Wednesday after posting $200,000 bail.
Ivan Cheung, 42, had pleaded not guilty to charges that he raped the four people at knifepoint. The youngest, whom he also stabbed, was 13 years old, prosecutors say.
As part of his bail conditions, he was ordered to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet, surrender his passport and remain in Massachusetts. He's also subject to a curfew – 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. seven days a week – and is not allowed to have contact with any accusers or witnesses.
According to the Suffolk County district attorney's office, Cheung is accused of picking up the 13-year-old girl in Chinatown in 2003, driving her to a different location and then raping her at knifepoint and stabbing her in the shoulder.
Prosecutors said Cheung picked up a 14-year-old girl in the Charles Circle area about a week later and drove to another location before raping and stabbing her.
The district attorney's office also accused Cheung of picking up a 23-year-old in the Park Plaza area in 2005, holding a knife to her throat, raping her and stabbing her numerous times.
In 2006, Cheung picked up an 18-year-old woman in the North End, held a knife to her throat and raped her, prosecutors say.
Cheung worked for State Street, the banking giant headquartered in Boston’s Financial District. A company spokesperson on Sept. 13 said State Street fired him.
Cheung was arrested after Boston re-examined unsolved rapes and tied some of the alleged assaults together. Detectives had retrieved a cigarette butt he discarded in the South Bay shopping center.
