Random House launches Flipboard magazines for Margaret Atwood and George R.R. Martin

This is cool: Random House has partnered with Flipboard to create curated magazines for two of its bestselling authors, Margaret Atwood and Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.

The Margaret Atwood magazine, “MaddAddam’s World,” is inspired by Atwood’s new novel, MaddAddam, the third in a trilogy. “The magazine will enhance the experience of being immersed in the brilliantly imagined world that Margaret Atwood has created in the trilogy,” said Judy Jacoby, VP and director of advertising and promotion at Random House’s Doubleday. The magazine promises articles on “the science, the nature, the gardening, the tech, the outfits,” and includes articles on lab-grown burgers, organic gardening and reclaimed treehouses.

George R.R. Martin’s magazine, “The World of Ice and Fire,” is officially being run by fan site Westeros.org* and promoted by Random House. It includes more information about the Song of Ice and Fire series, as well as Martin’s other projects in fiction, comics, gaming and collectibles.

Random House says it plans to launch more book-centered Flipboard magazines soon.

Flipboard launched its curated magazines feature in March (here’s GigaOM’s) and started making them available on the web in July. At that point, the company also said that users had created over two million magazines.

*Thing I learned on Westeros.org: Someone recently completed a successful Kickstarter campaign to manufacture Westeros “Golden Dragon” coins in 22k gold. The Kickstarter sought to raise $10,000 and ended up with $21,000.
