SAN DIEGO, May 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, May 13, the San Diego Reader will host the 3rd annual Tacotopia, a cross-border food event featuring 50 taco vendors from San Diego, Los Angeles, and Tijuana, all competing for the title of Best Taco. Ticket-holders will taste their way through an unlimited number of signature tacos and cast their vote for their favorite vendor. Tacotopia takes place in Golden Hill Park from 12-4 pm and features a cash bar, live graffiti art, and live music.
"Tacotopia is a chance to savor a glimpse of Tijuana without the hassles of the border," says San Diego Reader writer and Tijuana resident, Matthew Suárez. "No one in Tijuana agrees on which is the best taco, but they all agree that the best taco in the world is found here in TJ."
Famoso, the reigning Tacotopia champ of 2016, however, hails from this side of the border, and they'll be back this year to defend their title.
"We're excited and confident that we will once again be the people's choice, making us the undefeated Best Taco for two years in a row," says Famoso's Angel Hernandez.
With 23 new vendors and a 40% increase in attendance (3500 expected), Tacotopia 2017 promises to be bigger and better than ever. Event highlights include:
- Unlimited tacos from the best restaurants and food trucks in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Tijuana
- The Best Taco contest
- A cash bar serving craft beer and margaritas (proceeds to benefit The Greater Golden Hill Community Development corporation)
- Live art by Tijuana graffiti artists:
- Michelle Guerrero
- Panca (Paola Villaseñor)
- Live music by Tijuana bands:
- Minor Gems
- The Bad Vibes
- Sonidero Travesura
- La Diabla
- Early admission and drink tickets for VIP ticket-holders
Tacotopia offers locals and visitors the opportunity to taste some of the world's best tacos from both sides of the border—all in one festive location.
