The Reason Why This Royal Wedding Page Boy Grinned Right Before Meghan Markle Walked Down the Aisle

So that’s why! Just as Meghan Markle made her grand entrance into St. George’s Chapel, one of her page boys flashed a mega watt smile from behind the bride that was seen by millions of viewers around the world, including 24 million spectators from the U.S.

The little one, 7-year-old Brian Mulroney, is one of the twin sons of Markle’s best friend Jessica Mulroney. Markle had asked all three of Mulroney’s children, John and Brian, and little Ivy, 4, to be in the junior bridal party alongside Prince George and Princess Charlotte on May 19.

Their dad Ben Mulroney is the son of the former Prime Minister of Canada, and he currently hosts a TV show called Your Morning. Days after the nuptials, the father of three reflected back on his children’s adorable reactions at the ceremony, starting with Brian.

“I asked him and he said he’d never heard a trumpet before,” he revealed of his son’s gap-toothed grin. “And I think when he walked in, I think he saw all the people there and the flowers—none of that was there during the rehearsal.”

There was a lot of pressure building up to the wedding day itself. “There had been so much talk about getting it right with the rehearsals and these kids are so young,” he explained. “There was a lot of worry that this wouldn’t get done right, but they’re having so much fun with it. And that, to me, was the thing that gave me the most pride was that we didn’t put so much pressure on them that this wasn’t joyful for them. It was pretty darn joyful.”

The Mulroney parents encouraged their kids to wave and have respectful fun in the spotlight. Both twins were tasked with holding Markle’s cascading veil, so they were in the same car as the bride. Upon their arrival, they were photographed beaming with their faces up against the window.

“We did months and months of bribery and mild threatening,” Ben joked of the pressures leading up to the wedding. “But in the days leading up, we changed our tune to a more Oprah-themed empowerment: ‘You can do this!’” And they did.”

Overall, the junior bridal party got along fantastically. Ben said his little one Ivy “made very good friends” with the other bridesmaids (and we’re hoping Princess Charlotte, who was peak adorable at her uncle’s nuptials).

“The kids had a chance to get to know each other a little bit at these rehearsals and some get-togethers as well,” he said. “They sort of came together in a little bit of a ‘club’ before this happened.”
