Reese Witherspoon is just another mom who thinks it’s crazy that girls rarely get pockets

Reese Witherspoon has a new mission that sounds like it would be right up Elle Woods’s alley: Getting pockets put in girls’ clothing.

The actress and mom of three used her Instagram this week to support one mother’s viral call for clothing companies to add real, functional pockets to pants designed for little girls. According to the frustrated mom, her 3-year-old daughter struggles to find places to stash her toys and other treasures, and has even had to stuff items down her shirt for safekeeping.

She also noted that many clothing items have fake pockets with no actual lining.

Witherspoon, whose Southern-inspired Draper James fashion line does indeed feature a respectable selection of pants with pockets, called the pocket rant “fighting the good fight.” And it seems that plenty of women agree — not just on behalf of their kids but for themselves too.

“I love this and it’s true!!!” another mom commented about her post. “My 3-year-old gets mad at her 1-year-old brother for having pockets!!!”

“GIRLS AND WOMEN,” added a commenter. “Pockets are the worst in women’s fashion. They’re supposed to be functional, not just aesthetic!”

“Fake pockets are the actual worst!” read another comment, while someone else railed about “those teeny pockets that hold two quarters.”

“My daughter said exactly the same today while trying on new pants,” a parent shared. “I didn’t even know they removed them on girls’ jeans, etc. Guess they figured you all have handbags.”

“I agree!” a fan wrote. “I had to wear boys’ jeans or pants if I wanted pockets when I was a little girl.”

The people have spoken: More pockets, please. If Witherspoon can turn Big Little Lies into an awards show gold mine and a Meryl Streep vehicle, surely her persuasive powers can help give girls’ fashion a hand.
