In the HBO mega-hit Big Little Lies, Reese Witherspoon might be playing house in a stunning Cape Cod-style mansion (available for rent!) set along the craggy cliffs of Monterey, California. In real life, however, the actress’s dream house wish list includes something a little further south and a lot more rustic.
That’s, at least, according to her latest score, a charmingly restored farmhouse in the swanky, celeb-loved city of Malibu. According to Variety, the Legally Blonde actress recently snatched up a two-acre compound perched in the foothills above Malibu’s Zuma Beach for $6.25 million. Dubbed Zuma Farms, the quaint estate was previously owned and restored by Scott and Amie Yancey (of Flipping Vegas fame), who used the property as a home and hobby farm for their resident horses, ponies, pigs, and chicks. With acres of photogenic gardens and entertaining space, the farms were also available to rent for weddings and events.
While it’s unclear what Witherspoon plans to do with her new digs (other than swoon), multiple structures give the actress plenty of options. The main home is a modernized, 1949-built farmhouse with an upgraded galley-style kitchen and wood floors throughout. Adjacent to the farmhouse is a rustic wood-clad barn and guesthouse with soaring ceilings, a fully outfitted kitchen, and lofted bedroom.
While the wide-open barn is a dynamite spot for gatherings, several other spots on the property boast additional party-ready perks. Elsewhere on the farm, a separate screening room features a movie theater-style projection screen and surrounding speakers (plus a wet bar, naturally). An adorable, pint-sized film studio is also nearby, giving the actress an opportunity to flex her creative muscle at home. For the animal residents, state-of-the-art, vine-clad stables offer room for multiple horses, while a pig pen and chicken coop provide space for other furry and feathered creatures.

Given Witherspoon’s southern roots, it’s no surprise the actress passed up Malibu’s beachfront McMansions in favor of a rustic hobby farm. But trading in direct oceanfront didn’t sacrifice the property’s coastal appeal: According to the Zuma Farms website, the estate “gives you an earful of the pounding waves and is within walking distance to the world-famous Zuma Beach in Malibu.”
