Rent-A-Center raises quarterly dividend

PLANO, Texas (AP) -- Rent-A-Center is boosting its quarterly dividend by 31 percent to 21 cents per share from 16 cents per share.

The rental furniture company said Monday that the dividend will be paid on Jan. 24, 2013 to shareholders of record on Jan. 3, 2013.

Shares of Rent-A-Center Inc., which is based in Plano, Texas, gained 9 cents to $35.25 in morning trading.

The company owns and runs about 3,100 stores in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico and about 880 kiosks in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. ColorTyme Inc. is a subsidiary and franchiser of approximately 220 rent-to-own stores under the ColorTyme name.
