Netflix has been making a splash lately with its exclusive content, and according to an announcement from The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday, that now includes a Hulk Hogan biopic. “Hangover” trilogy director Todd Phillips will be directing biopic in partnership with Netflix and “Avengers” star Chris Hemsworth is slated to portray Hogan in the film which will be produced by Michael Sugar, Phillips and Bradley Cooper. Yes, you read that right.

After helping pivot WWF (now WWE) to wild popularity in the early 80s and 90s, video gaming and entertainment media site IGN has noted Hogan as “the most recognized wrestling star worldwide and the most popular wrestler of the 1980s.”

Hogan, 53, was born Terry Bollea in Augusta, Georgia and has what most would consider two very separate facets to his life — his inside-the-ring persona and the outside-the-ring life of Bollea.

The latter is not as flattering as the glamorous life of the most recognized wrestler in the world, who also went on to become somewhat of an actor himself, portraying “Thunderlips” in the third installation of “Rocky” as well as appear in several movies and TV shows.

In April of 2012, Gawker Media released a previously unseen sex-tape of Bollea and radio-personality Bubba the Lovesponge’s wife Heather Clem which led Bollea to sue Gawker Media for invasion of privacy, infringement of personality rights and and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Bollea was awarded a $115 million settlement, causing Gawker to file for bankruptcy.

Bollea was also part of a scandal in which WWE terminated its contract with him in July of 2015 after he made racist slurs and called himself “a racist, to a point.”

However, much in the same vein as the Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the Hogan biopic will focus on the origin story of Hulkamania — and not delve into the less palatable aspects of Bollea’s life.

According to Stereo Gum, Bollea has had an eye on Hemsworth portraying him in a biopic since as far back as 2013. “We need a serious, serious actor that knows what he’s doing,” Bollea said. “You know who I thought would be good? That guy that did that action movie ‘Thor.’”

Bollea will be a consultant on the film as well as serving as an executive producer, which is sure to keep the story conveniently neat. The script will be written by Scott Silver, who has worked with director Phillips on his upcoming film “The Joker” starring Joaquin Phoenix.

The project is in the early stages, which makes sense seeing as Hemsworth is quite the busy man this year. Hemsworth has three movies due out in 2019 — “Avengers: Endgame,” “Men in Black: International,” and “Dhaka”.

Hulkamania is back — and this time, it’s going to be Thor-sized.
