Report: Jets interested in adding Senators' Stone, Duchene, Dzingel

Trade talks between the Winnipeg Jets and Ottawa Senators seem to be heating up.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun says the Jets are interested in Senators forwards Matt Duchene, Mark Stone and Ryan Dzingel.

Garrioch added that prior to Saturday nights matchup between the two teams, Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was at the afternoon afternoon practice at Bell MTS Place and was spotted leaving with Ottawa general manager Pierre Dorion.

Dorion, assistant GM Peter MacTavish and top pro scout Jim Clark were also in town Thursday to watch the Jets’ game against the Avalanche.

The Jets are showing the most interest in Stone, the Winnipeg native who has 59 points in 58 games. The Senators have been pushing this week to get Stone signed to a contract extension, the Jets would then turn their attention to Duchene or Dzingel.

Duchene has 27 goals and 56 points in 49 games and while Dzingel may not be Winnipeg’s first choice of the three, with 22 goals and 43 points in 56 games, he would definitely be an asset to the Jets’ push for the Stanley Cup.

The trio are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on July 1. Winnipeg likely wouldn’t have the room to sign Stone or Duchene to an extension, as Patrik Laine, Kyle Connor, and Jacob Trouba will become restricted free agents at the end of the season.
