Kawhi Leonard has decided not to attend a USA Basketball minicamp in Las Vegas next week, ESPN reports.

The official reason, according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, is that Leonard intends to use the time to prepare for the Toronto Raptors.

Camp led by Spurs coach Gregg Popovich

It’s hard to ignore the fact that San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich also happens to be the coach of USA Basketball when considering Leonard’s decision to sit out.

Before the Spurs traded Leonard to the Raptors, ESPN reported that Leonard was “seriously considering” attending next week’s minicamp despite his reported fractured relationship with the Spurs.

Leonard was one of 35 players invited to the Nevada desert.

He apparently has changed his mind since that report.

Spurs forward DeMar DeRozan, Leonard’s counterpart in his trade to Toronto, reportedly does intend to spend time with his new coach in Las Vegas.
