PHOENIX (AP) _ Republic Services Inc. (RSG) on Thursday reported fourth-quarter net income of $301 million.
The Phoenix-based company said it had net income of 92 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 80 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 78 cents per share.
The waste management company posted revenue of $2.53 billion in the period, which missed Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.54 billion.
For the year, the company reported profit of $1.04 billion, or $3.16 per share. Revenue was nearly unchanged at $10.04 billion.
Republic Services expects full-year earnings in the range of $3.23 to $3.28 per share.
Republic Services shares have increased nearly 8 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased almost 8 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $77.74, a rise of 20 percent in the last 12 months.
