All the Riverdale Easter eggs in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 3

Warning: Spoilers from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 3 are discussed in this article.

On one side of Sweetwater River is the town of Riverdale, the setting of The CW’s Riverdale and a home to Pop’s Chock’Lit Shoppe, the Blossom family dynasty, and the local high school Bulldogs football team. On the other side is the town of Greendale, the locale for Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and the place where you’ll find Cerberus Books, a secret coven of witches, and the exact spot where the angel Lucifer hit the earth after falling from Heaven. These two shows, both hailing from executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, never had a full-on crossover episode, but they keep circling each other in a delicate dance that often includes Easter eggs, straight-up name drops, and familiar character cameos. Part 3 of Sabrina, available to stream now on Netflix, is no different.

Here’s a running guide to all the connections you might’ve missed and the ones you definitely didn’t.

Episode 1: “The Hellbound Heart”

Prudence (Tati Gabrielle) and Ambrose (Chance Perdomo) are on a mission to find and kill Father Blackwood (Richard Coyle) after he nearly wiped out the entire coven and fled Greendale in Part 2. After a month of searching, they believe he’s in New Orleans, so they devise a plan to lure him to an empty apartment to do the deed. Prudence assumes the glamour-ed guise of Ms. Dubois, who’s played by Nathalie Boltt, the actress behind Cheryl’s mom Penelope on Riverdale.

Episode 2: “Drag Me to Hell”

As the newly crowned Queen of Hell, Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) has some infernal responsibilities to the throne, one of which is ferrying condemned souls to an afterlife of eternal torment. Among the names on her list is Jimmy Platt, a seemingly friendly ice cream truck driver who secretly gave his soul to the Devil as thanks for saving his life after a car crash. Every seven years, he extends his contract by sacrificing an innocent child and eating their heart. Jimmy is played on Sabrina by Matty Finochio, who is set to play the host of the Quiz Show Championship on the Jan. 29 episode of Riverdale.

Episode 3: “Heavy Is the Crown”

With help from Ambrose, Sabrina literally crosses over to the town of Riverdale.

Caliban (Sam Corlett), molded from clay in Hell, challenges Sabrina for the throne. Doing so sparks a quest for the Unholy Regalia, the three most powerful occult artifacts: the crown of Herod, the bowl of Pontius Pilate, and the silver of Judas Iscariot. First is the crown. Ambrose’s research discovers a man named Benjamin Blossom was the last known bearer of the crown and brought it back to Riverdale.

On their way across town lines, Ambrose and Sabrina pass a sign. On its back, someone spray painted the message “Murder Capital of the World,” a common nickname for Riverdale. Below that are the words “JJ Wuz Here.” Given the accompanying crown symbol, JJ most likely refers to Jughead Jones, Cole Sprouse‘s character on Riverdale.

The most clear-cut connection between Sabrina Part 3 and Riverdale, however, is the name Blossom. Benjamin appears to be an ancestor of Cheryl “Bombshell” Blossom (Madelaine Petsch). It’s not just that Cheryl’s Nana Rose is said to have gypsy blood. With the fact that Ambrose pulls Herod’s crown out of a maple tree, one might also surmise that the Blossom maple syrup empire was supernaturally rooted in this demonic relic.

Episode 6: “All of Them Witches”

Netflix

With the ruling class of Hell in disorder, the Old Ones, ancient Greek monsters, arrive in Greendale disguised as carnival workers to reclaim the earth and resurrect their pagan gods, starting with the oldest of them, the Green Man. This leads to a war with the coven. Circe, a witch of transformation from Homer’s The Odyssey, hexes Hilda (Lucy Davis) into a spider woman. Fearing she will never return back to how she was, Hilda goes to spend her final hours as a human with Dr. Cee (Alessandro Juliani). She gets a craving and asks him to go to a diner in Riverdale with “the juiciest hamburgers and thickets milkshakes.” That can only be Pop’s Chock’Lit Shoppe.

While Mr. Cee is out, someone wanders into Cerberus Books. It’s a member of the Southside Serpents. Hopefully Jughead and the other bikers won’t miss him because Spider-Hilda grew rather peckish waiting for her food.

Meanwhile on Riverdale

The CW
The CW

Within hours of Sabrina premiering on Netflix Thursday night, The CW aired a new episode of Riverdale that featured another big crossover. In fact, it the most overt crossover from Sabrina to Riverdale.

Publicly, Betty (Lili Reinhart) is writing a story on the big football game between Riverdale High and Stonewall Prep. Secretly, she’s looking into a tip from Reggie (Charles Melton) that the Stonewall players intentionally hurt the rival team’s star athletes. Betty interviews a number of football players from various schools to get the goods. One of those players is Billy (Ty Wood), the Baxter High Ravens teammate who used to bully Theo (Lachlan Watson) on Sabrina but now is nice after Hilda’s intervention. The Ravens, as we heard in previous Sabrina episodes, often play the Riverdale Bulldogs. So, Billy knows what’s up on and off the field.

One of the big mysteries of Sabrina surrounds when the show takes place. With all the witchy happenings and the temporal shifts going on, especially in Part 3, it’s hard to pin down whether the titular teen witch has been going to Baxter at the same time Archie (KJ Apa) and pals were attending Riverdale. This latest round of Easter eggs suggest it is around the same time, if not the exact same time. But without definitive confirmation from the powers that be, we’ll have to keep guessing.
