Rob Gronkowski is playing video games, so he must be feeling better

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — The Super Bowl media sessions, especially the time with the New England Patriots, hasn’t been as fun without Rob Gronkowski. But Gronk is still being Gronk during Super Bowl week.

Being in the concussion protocol didn’t keep Gronk from playing some Xbox here. Even though the Patriots tight end hasn’t been at media availability because he still hasn’t been fully cleared from a concussion suffered in the AFC championship game, he didn’t cancel an appearance to play “Madden” against Philadelphia Eagles running back LeGarrette Blount on Tuesday.

Hey, if Gronk is playing video games, he must be getting better.

Gronkowski seemed confident he’ll be good to go for Sunday’s Super Bowl, although he wasn’t proclaiming himself cleared.

“I’m not the guy to say ‘I’m out of the protocol,’ that’s the doctor’s calls,” Gronkowski said, according to NFL Network.

When asked if he expected to play in the Super Bowl, a relaxed Gronkowski (though, when is he not relaxed?) smiled and replied “Yes.” He has been practicing with the Patriots in recent days, which is a good sign.

Hopefully that’s the case. The game will be better without one of the league’s best players, and the week would be more interesting with one of its best characters. Until then, Gronkowski will just have to hone his virtual football skills.
