Where are Roy Hodgson's final Liverpool squad now?

Rewind: Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool legacy wasn’t much Kop
Rewind: Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool legacy wasn’t much Kop

Just the mere mention of Roy Hodgson’s name is enough to make Liverpool supporters squirm.

His six-months in charge left Reds fans hiding behind their sofas and for those who actually still went to games, it was enough to make them dart off for a half-time beer a good 15 minutes early.

Those dark days are now forgotten, but when Liverpool travel to Crystal Palace tonight they’ll be reminded of what used to be.

A part of the fans’ problem is the mess the now-Eagles boss left behind at the time.

We take a look at the side he lumberred Liverpool with after being given his marching orders as we find out what they’re up to these days.

Firing blanks: Liverpool’s signings weren’t great under Hodgson
Firing blanks: Liverpool’s signings weren’t great under Hodgson

Pepe Reina, goalkeeper

Now 35 and at AC Milan, he’s actually had a fair amount of success. Not one of the bad ones!

Peter Gulacsi, goalkeeper

Nope, we don’t know either. The Hungarian number two never made an appearance for Liverpool and is now with RB Leipzig.

Paul Konchesky, defender

Never in a million years was he good enough to play for Liverpool. Currently ending his playing days at East Thurrock United.

Sotirios Kyrgiakos, defender

Remember the Greek defender with the floppy hair? Was a bit of a cult hero but really should never have played for the Reds. Now 39, he’s long retired.

Daniel Agger, defender

The Dane was a popular figure on Merseyside and could have achieved more. He’s now enjoying a career as a tattoo artist.

Martin Kelly, defender

The young product didn’t make the grade. Kelly actually enjoyed his best season at the club during Hodgson’s time and that tells you everything. Now at a squad player at Palace.

Martin Skrtel, defender

The Slovakian was never quite the player they wanted him to be. Still playing both internationally and for Fenerbahçe.

Glen Johnson, defender

One of those ‘not as old as you think’ players. At just 33, he is hoping to get back into the Premier League with Stoke City.

Steven Gerrard, midfielder

Of course a legend. Hoping to re-energise Rangers as he takes his first steps into management.

Christian Poulsen, midfielder

The Danish midfielder left almost as soon as the manager did. Now retired after returning to Copenhagen.

Lucas Leiva, midfielder

Now at Lazio, the Brazilian worked hard and became a much better player after Hodgson left.

Joe Cole, midfielder

A bizarre signing. Sent off minutes into his debut and things didn’t really improve. Now enjoying a final pay day in America with Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Maxi Rodriguez, midfielder

He actually started his Liverpool career superbly but it was a false dawn. Now plays for Uruguayan club Peñarol.

Fernando Torres, striker

An Anfield icon who is a walking advert for just staying put when things are going well. Now 34, he’s picking up nice money in Japan with Sagan Tosu.

Ryan Babel, forward

Not a bad player, but it just didn’t work out for him at Liverpool. Still in the Holland side after scoring some goals for Besiktas.

Milan Jovanovic, forward

The Serbian was signed on a free transfer and nobody knew why. Retired in 2012.

Dirk Kuyt, forward

Always a Liverpool favourite, his energy and commitment made him an instant hit. Ended his career at the oddly-named Quick Boys.

David N’Gog, striker

Looking at Liverpool’s attacking options now, you won’t understand how this ever actually happened. Who knows, but he’s actually only 29 and has found his level as a squad player for Budapest Honvéd.
