Ruskin Manufacturing to close West Virginia plant

Ruskin Manufacturing to close West Virginia plant in mid-2014, move operations to other states

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) -- Ruskin Manufacturing plans to close its plant in north-central West Virginia and lay off 185 workers.

The company says in a news release that the plant in Fairmont will close around July 31, 2014. Workers were notified of the decision on Monday.

Ruskin Manufacturing attributes the pending closure to a decline in commercial construction markets. The company produces air and sound control products for the heating, ventilating and air conditioning market. It also produces dampers for tunnel ventilation, process applications, and waste-water treatment facilities.

Ruskin says the Fairmont plant's operations will be transferred to facilities in Lexington, Ky., Geneva, Ala., and Parsons, Kan.
