Alex van der Zwaan, a former Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom associate and son-in-law of the Russian oligarch German Khan, is charged in Washington federal district court with lying to investigators. Van der Zwaan, represented by a team from Cooley, was in court Tuesday afternoon for a plea hearing. Cooley partners Laura Birger and William Schwartz, and associate Nicholas Flath, each based in New York, filed appearances for the defense, in addition to partner David Mills in Washington.
