Saleen Supercar Coming in 2015

Jeff Perez

When the awe-inspiring S5S supercar concept (pictured) at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, it was a sign that Saleen was more than just a go-to for all things Mustang. The firm knows how to build modern supercars, as it had done in the past.

Unfortunately, due to a number of issues, ranging from the 2008 financial crisis, to Steve Saleen’s inability to produce cars under his own name, the project was put on hold until a later date. That later date, according to a recent MotorTrend interview with Steve Saleen, is 2015.

Picking up where the Raptor left off, the new and improved supercar will bear a resemblance both physically and mechanically to the concept we saw back in 2008. Taking note from the previous S7, the S5S would be a lighter, cheaper alternative, in order to compete with the likes of the Ferrari 458 and McLaren 12C, among others.

Unlike the S7– which held a hefty price tag of $395K– the new supercar is expected to fetch closer to $200K, and might even sport the same 650-hp, 5.0-liter supercharged V8 we saw on the concept nearly five years ago.

No other official details have been given just yet, but expect more information to break closer to next year.
