Samsung debuts Mini rival

The S. Korean consumer electronics giant announced its Galaxy Note 8.0, an 8-inch tablet that will compete with Apple's (AAPL) 7.9-inch iPad Mini. The tablet features a stylus and runs Google's (GOOG) Android. Unlike the Mini, the Note can double as a phone. The device will be available in Q2. Samsung has also scheduled a media event in New York for March 14. Analysts are speculating that Samsung will unveil its Galaxy S4 smartphone at the event, marking the first U.S. launch of a Galaxy smartphone in 3 years. Google shares fell 1.1% to 790.77. Apple rose 1.8% to 442.80.
