San Diego Association of Health Underwriters Hosts First Live Program for Certified Healthcare Reform Specialists

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - May 7, 2013) - The San Diego Association of Health Underwriters (SDAHU) launched a healthcare reform training and certification course for its members using a live interactive format for 160+ Association members. Participants were able to communicate with some of the top national experts in healthcare reform during the course and upon completion receive designation as Certified Healthcare Reform Specialists® (CHRS). http://www.healthcarereformcertification.com

Craig Gussin, President of the SDAHU, said, "Because of the complexity, scope and depth of the healthcare reform law it was important for our members to become as well educated as possible when it comes to healthcare reform. They need to be experts when advising clients, with PPACA there is no margin for error."

"When SDAHU looked at the different possibilities for advanced education in the healthcare reform law, it was clear that the Certified Healthcare Reform Specialist program was the answer. The CHRS program was clearly the most comprehensive and the opportunity for our members to learn through interactive live instruction by some of the nation's top experts in healthcare reform is going to be a huge advantage for our members who underwent the healthcare reform training and certification."

Gussin further explained that SDAHU members will now be able to add to their business cards and credentials the designation and seal of being a Certified Healthcare Reform Specialist and will be able to distinguish themselves amongst other agents and insurance professionals.

The CHRS program is a comprehensive course, approved nationally for continuing education, and designed to educate the students about the effects of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) on employer health plans. Topics covered today included some of the following:

  • What comes into effect in 2014

  • State, Federal, and Private Exchanges

  • The Employer Mandate

  • PPACA's Effects on Employer-Sponsored

  • Taxes as a result of PPACA

  • Healthcare Reform and Wellness

  • How to discuss healthcare reform with employees

  • Compliance Issues, Mandates and Deadlines

Jonathan Edelheit, President of the Health Care Reform Center and Policy Institute, had this to say about SDAHU's recent achievement: "The Healthcare Reform Certification and Designation course sets the standard for the industry. The San Diego Health Underwriters Association and its members who underwent certification today are showing local and national employers and HR professionals, that they set themselves to the highest standard and have received advanced education. They show that they are the leaders. A lot of insurance agents are stating that they are knowledgeable or experts in healthcare reform. This certification shows employers and other industry professionals that SDAHU members have a higher level of expertise than other agents in the industry."

Edelheit added, "Those who took certification today are leading the trail of a new essential element in understanding and advising others in healthcare reform."

The CHRS Designation is offered in conjunction with the Health Care Reform Center and Policy Institute (HCRPI) and the Healthcare Reform Magazine. The specialist designation and certification was developed over the past several years by national healthcare reform experts and leaders. The certification can be taken online, or at the National Healthcare Reform Conference®, part of the Employer Healthcare & Benefits Congress and the National Health Insurance Exchange Conference, November 3-6, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada, www.healthcarereformconference.com, www.employerhealthcarecongress.com or through onsite training and live webcasting. The healthcare reform certification is also offered as an interactive, group one-day training available for employers, agencies and insurance carriers.
