San Jose State DB Chad Miller hospitalized after stabbing

San Jose State defensive back Chad Miller remains hospitalized after being stabbed during an altercation over the weekend.

Police said Miller, a junior safety, was stabbed just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning. According to The Mercury News, doctors at Valley Medical Center in San Jose said Miller’s prognosis “looks good.” As of Monday morning, Miller, 21, was still in the hospital. No arrests have been made.

“He is hospitalized and expected to recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chad and his family for his prompt recovery,” the university said in a statement.

Miller’s father Brad told KGO that the stabbing took place after “a fight erupted.”

“A fight erupted and he ended up getting stabbed. He wasn’t initially involved in the fight but somehow he got stabbed,” Brad Miller said.

Miller played in all 12 games for the Spartans in 2016, including three starts. He finished the season with 25 tackles and a forced fumble. Miller arrived on campus in 2014 and redshirted.

He did not see any action in 2015 after an altercation with a teammate. Per the Mercury News, Miller suffered broken bones in his face after allegedly being struck in the face with a skateboard by teammate Bomani Bassette-Hairston. Bassette-Hairston was dismissed from the team following the incident.
