Sandra Bullock assembles an all-star female heist squad in first 'Ocean's 8' trailer

This side of Avengers: Infinity War, there may be no more star-studded movie coming to theaters next summer than Ocean’s 8, a spin-off from Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s 11 trilogy that’ll be headlined by Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway. An elaborate heist film featuring A-list talent wherever you turn, it promises a con like no other, and its eagerly anticipated debut trailer certainly makes clear that it’ll be operating in the same sort of stylishly funny vein as its male-centric predecessors.

In the above clip, Bullock’s Debbie Ocean (estranged sister of Clooney’s Danny) promises a parole board that, if released from jail, she’ll get back on the straight and narrow. Those guarantees are, predictably, not to be trusted, as she’s no sooner back on the street than she’s recruiting a gaggle of friends to help her stage a spectacular swindle of a $150 million diamond necklace that’ll be worn by Hathaway’s character at the annual Met Gala. To accomplish this daring feat, she enlists the aid of Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, and Awkwafina, all of whom will be bringing a very particular set of criminal skills to the table to help make off with the valuable target in question even though, as the trailer makes clear, Ocean may have vengeful ulterior motives for this particular robbery.

Directed not by Soderbergh but by Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) and set to feature at least two cameos from the prior trilogy — Ocean’s 8 will no doubt be one of next year’s highest-profile mid-year releases when it slides into theaters on June 8.
