The Russian was hiding from Lithuanian law enforcement officers for committing serious crimes related to financial transactions.

At first, the criminal tried to obtain legal status in the city of Khmelnytskyi in western Ukraine, but after that plan failed, he ran away and "laid low" in Kyiv, where he was detained by the SBU, the agency said.

"Currently, the issue of applying an extradition arrest to a foreigner is being resolved,” the SBU added.

“His possible involvement in crimes in Ukraine is also being checked.
