On a per-share basis, the company said it had a loss of 22 cents. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 15 cents per share.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 14 cents per share.
The shipping company posted revenue of $141.8 million in the period, which topped Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $139.8 million.
The company's shares closed at $2.16. A year ago, they were trading at $3.72.
