SYLMAR, Calif. (AP) _ Second Sight Medical Products Inc. (EYES) on Wednesday reported a loss of $8.5 million in its third quarter.

The Sylmar, California-based company said it had a loss of 12 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for stock option expense and non-recurring costs, were 11 cents per share.

The maker of camera-based retinal implants posted revenue of $2.2 million in the period.

In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, the company's shares hit $1.70. A year ago, they were trading at $1.17.
