The Obama White House may be over, but the love between the 44th president and the former first lady is still going strong. For Michelle Obama’s 54th birthday this week, Barack Obama had the sweetest gift awaiting her arrival that had her so smitten, she just had to share on social media.
“Thank you @BarackObama for the beautiful flowers waiting for me in the office this morning,” she wrote on Instagram. “You’re my best friend, biggest fan, and getting notes and flowers from you will never get old.”
We’re going to go out on a limb and say this adorable gesture isn’t anything new for these two. Odds are, the former first lady has been receiving beautiful handwritten notes and flowers from her “best friend” for at least the last 25 years. The two celebrated a quarter of a century together on October 3, 2017.
Michelle went on to thank all of her supporters who also took the time out to express their love for the self-proclaimed hugger-in-chief.
“And to the many people from around the country who sent cards and posted on social media, you have no idea how much we love hearing from you. I know birthdays can sometimes be bittersweet (54!), but your messages of hope, generosity, and warmth have always reminded me how lucky and blessed we are.”
The day couldn’t end without a few words from the big man himself. The former commander-in-chief posted a photo of himself gazing endearingly at his wife—the only way a queen should be looked at—with some loving words in the caption.
“You’re not only my wife and the mother of my children, you’re my best friend,” he wrote. “I love your strength, your grace, and your determination. And I love you more each day. Happy Birthday, @MichelleObama.”
Moral of the story: Marry your best friend. And happy birthday, Michelle Obama!
