See the Clever Social-Media Trick Reese Witherspoon Played to Get Her Kids to Clean Their Rooms·People

When a face-to-face conversation won’t cut it for chore requests, Reese Witherspoon speaks in her kids’ language: social media.

The actress, Draper James co-founder and mother of three leveraged a clever technique to get a message across to her children, which she took to Instagram to show off on Thursday.

Featuring a cute Snapchat giraffe filter, Witherspoon’s selfie hilariously read across the bottom, “Go clean your dirty room” — likely addressing her two older kids Deacon Reese, 15, and Ava Elizabeth, 19.

“How to talk to teenagers on Snapchat #momlife,” she captioned the Instagram post.

Witherspoon, 42, joked about her teenagers’ preferred method of communication in October 2016, telling Jenna Bush Hager during an interview for the Today show that “they will Snapchat me back, but they will not call me back.”

To their credit, it’s possible Deacon, Ava and their little brother Tennessee James, 6, just have a hard time decoding their mom’s southern-isms in person.

“My kids do this whole thing where they make fun of me because I’ll say, ‘He did do, but he didn’t done do. He done did that,’ ” the Sweet Home Alabama star — who was born in New Orleans and raised in Nashville, Tennessee — told Hager in the same interview.

“They’ll be like, ‘What? Why are you [saying], “Did done?” ‘ ” she continued. “My little 4-year-old will be like, ‘He did done do!’ They think it’s hysterical. They don’t understand what I’m saying.”

In October, Witherspoon celebrated Deacon’s 15th birthday by sharing a sweet tribute on Instagram that showed Deacon towering over his mom as the two stood in front of their front door with pumpkins at their feet.

“Happy Birthday to my wonderful, creative, kind talented boy @deaconphillippe! Every day you teach me something new about beats, Fort Nite dances, fantasy football and cool sneakers,” Witherspoon wrote about her older son, whom she shares with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

“What a gift to be your mom. I ?? you, buddy! (P.S. When did you get so tall!?) #Thisis15,” the actress added.
