Seen here: A woman not involved with Sergey Brin

People Magazine, which never seems to get it wrong when it comes to the highlights and lowlights of Hollywood's glitterati, is having a tougher time knowing who's who in Silicon Valley.

It's not like People has much reason to work up sources in tech land. It's not really their bread and butter. I mean, when the most tabloid-y thing in months out of the Silicon Valley is Yahoo's Marissa Mayer posing in Vogue upside down on a chair, well, that doesn't sell as many magazines as Kim Kardashian going blonde, postpartum.

Now that Google (GOOG) co-founder Sergey Brin and his wife of six years, Anna Wojcicki, may be on the outs over allegations of an office affair , that got People's attention. Brin is young(ish), handsome(ish) and worth $23 billion(ish). The other woman is reported by Valleywag to be the 27-year-old marketing manager for Google Glass, Amanda Rosenberg.

Rosenberg has posted many images of herself on the Internet, so it's not too difficult to find out what she looks like.

Apparently, though, it's too difficult for People Magazine.

Valleywag reports that People's story about the breakup of the Brins includes a photo of the wrong woman . In fact, it appears the magazine chose a stock photo of a woman modeling Google Glass, staring Borg-like into the camera, and she is not Amanda Rosenberg.

Attempts from CNBC to reach People Magazine went unanswered.

However, a photo credit in a paper copy of the issue of People (the photo appears only in the print form of the magazine) confirms that it came from Splash News, an agency that sells paparazzi images. Splash News provides this description to the photo:

"A lady seen wearing the soon to be released google glasses whilst riding on her citibike in New York City, USA."

Valleywag's Sam Biddle replies, "Although it's true Amanda Rosenberg is 'a lady' often seen wearing Google Glass, and has perhaps used a bicycle before, that's where the similarities end."

If People wanted to know what Amanda Rosenberg looks like, all it had to do was Google her.
