NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jul 1, 2013) - Send Word Now, the leading worldwide provider of emergency notification and critical communications services, announced today its entrance into the FEMA IPAWS OPEN Developers Program. The executed Memorandum of Agreement between FEMA IPAWS and Send Word Now paves the way for the company's online application to be designated as an IPAWS alert origination tool.
FEMA's Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) is a federal program with a mission to modernize and integrate various means of alerting the American public. From a single approved software application, public safety alerting authorities can create a wide variety of secure mass notifications, including those appropriate for the new Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system (also known as the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS)). The WEA system delivers geographically targeted, text-like alerts to enabled mobile devices without the need for consumer sign-ups.
Once completed, the Send Word Now application will utilize the latest version of the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) to deliver secure messages to the IPAWS OPEN alert aggregator. Once messages are authenticated, alerts can be sent through a variety of alerting channels and mediums.
"Send Word Now's entrance into the FEMA IPAWS program means public safety customers will have access to powerful new mass notification options," said Lorin Bristow, Senior Vice President of Marketing. "When released, new IPAWS capabilities will help ensure citizens receive critical life-safety alerts no matter where they are or what they are doing."
IPAWS capabilities will provide Send Word Now clients with another authoritative notification method in addition to other available means such as email, SMS, desktop alerting, Cisco IP phone alerting, and voice calls.
