SnoHub hopes to disrupt the multi-billion dollar snow removal industry

Dreading shoveling your driveway this winter? There’s an app for that. SnoHub is an app that connects users to shovel-ready contractors in real time based on their location. Its founder and CEO James Albis told Yahoo Finance that he wants SnoHub to become the Uber of snow removal.

Launched in 2016, the app is currently available in 31 markets in 19 states, including New York, Colorado, Utah, and Wisconsin, and has been downloaded more than 30,000 times. The company hopes to hit the one million mark this winter.

Workers who book jobs through SnoHub bring their own equipment — shovels, plows, etc. — to each job. The company keeps 30% of the fee, and the workers get the rest, including any tips. So far, the company has had more than 1,000 jobs in each of the markets where it is available.

Pricing is market driven, so where it snows more, it costs more  “In each market, the price is dependent on where the customers are, so in Rochester [NY] it will clearly be different than in Westchester [NY]. In terms of the amount of money that a contractor can earn, they can earn anywhere between $500 and $1,000 in a snow storm,” Albis said.

Pricing starts at $59 for removal of about six inches of snow on a 50-foot driveway. There’s a $10 charge for each inch after that.
