Despite the New York rain, everyone’s troubles seemed to melt like lemon drops at Alice + Olivia’s Over the Rainbow Pride Party last night, hosted by the label's CEO and creative director, Stacey Bendet. “For years, I’ve always said we’re a company that’s about dressing all women, but that term has changed so much and we’re really about dressing all people now.” Over poppy disco tunes, Bendet continued, “[Pride] month is such an important moment for New York and we’re such a New York brand that it was really important for us to do something.” And so, Bendet partnered with The Trevor Project, an organization committed to providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people. The organization is known for its “Communi-T” t-shirts, which inspired another collaboration with Alice + Olivia; available online now are The AO x The Trevor Project shirts—50% of net to be donated to The Trevor Project.

At last night's event at Industria Studios, the LGBTQ flag served as the color scheme and the invitation suggested guests dress in “Rainbow Chic.” Sofia Richie arrived in a lemon-hued suit, Ruby Aldridge deejayed tunes with Lady Bunny in a Swarovski bedazzled top—the room was a Kaleidoscope of color. Dominique Jackson of Pose didn’t disappoint in an Alice + Olivia number. “These dresses are just so beautiful. The entire collection is vibrant, it’s lively. You want to celebrate. You want to live. And for any person that celebrates Pride Month, any entity or any designer to celebrate, to me, that’s something that I should show up at.”

And Jackson was happy she did; she couldn’t get enough of the surprise performance—Harlem Ballroom dancers who Vogued and dipped the crowd into a frenzy. “The dancers are a part of my community...When I see them, I see the world is opening.”

More entertainment could be found at a tie-dye station hosted by Murder Bravado and for eats, pizza in custom A+O pizza boxes was dispersed into the crowd along with rainbow macarons and mini cupcakes. For drinks, guests quenched their thirst with every flavor of SVEDKA vodka imaginable, from cucumber to cherry. For Lady Bunny, this was more than just a party; “Pride celebrations tend to be best for young people because when you are fed negative messages about being gay from your parents, your church, schoolmates, wherever, you come and see your tribe not afraid, not ashamed, ready to party in fancy dress and you connect...And of course, this month is special because of the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall.

The evening showed no signs of slowing down. Pride Month may only be a few weeks but Jackson said it best, reminding us it’s a year-long fight. “Pride can never be just a month. We celebrate pride every day of the year—whether it’s black pride, whether LGBTQIA + pride, whether it’s the pride of being a woman, whether it’s the pride of being a mother, we should be proud of who we are each and every day.”
