New Software Transforms Outdated PCs to Provide Families an Extra PC

FORT COLLINS, CO--(Marketwired - January 20, 2015) - Mark Oman knew that in our technology-dependent culture, one computer per household wasn't enough. So he set out, with his company, PrairieIT, to create a solution that helped households utilize the old PCs they had sitting in storage and make them useful again.

"We know that many households need an additional computer," said Oman. "We also knew that many of those households had an old computer in storage (or could get their hands on one) that they thought was no longer usable. Our goal was to help families make that extra computer useful again -- affordably -- while reducing the amount of electronics going into landfills."

That led to the release of the company's software, Xtra-PC. The Linux-based software completely overwrites the hard drive of the old computer, erasing any potentially harmful files and making the computer useful again. The software is very easy to install and doesn't require in-depth computer skills to install or use. Families will be able to use the computer to watch movies, surf the internet, listen to music, and even play popular games like Minecraft.

"We've heard from families that they now have an extra PC for their kids to do homework on, freeing up their main computer for business and household management matters," said Oman. "We've also heard there are a lot of kids out there thrilled to have a dedicated gaming computer."

Xtra-PC is particularly geared towards people who had to abandon their Windows XP systems due to viruses and system vulnerabilities. Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows XP systems, but Xtra-PC is giving those old systems new life.

The software works on virtually any PC that's ten years old or newer, which could potentially keep millions of systems out of the landfill each year. The affordable price point will put a second system well within the financial reach of most families around the country.

Customers interested in ordering Xtra-PC can visit the company's website at www.xtra-pc.com.
