Zappos plans to close sprawling Louisville store

One of the city's outlets for discounted clothing and shoes is closing sometime soon.

A Zappos store in Louisville is ending operations later this year, the company said in a statement provided to The Courier Journal.

Zappos did not provide a specific date for when the store, at 9101 Minor Lane near Okolona and Fairdale, would close. The move comes after the company reassessed demand after an uncertain two years, according to the release.

"We are now in a better position to make decisions based on more normalized demands," the statement provided by a Zappos representative said. "With this in mind, we’re refocusing away from areas of the business that no longer meet our needs."

The Outlet Powered by Zappos opened in 2019 after it moved from a previous location in Shepherdsville. The 13,000-square-foot store sells discounted shoes, handbags, jewelry and clothing from the company, founded in 1999 as an online retailer.

"We are shifting our investments to ensure we remain committed to creating WOW opportunities for Zappos customers, brand partners, and each other," the statement said.

Zappos still maintains a presence in Louisville with its store at Mall St. Matthews, Zappos Unboxed, which opened last April. That shop will remain open, the company said.
