A New 'Star Wars' Leak Says 'Rise Of Skywalker' May Have Another Awkward Love Triangle
One of the most memorable details of the first Star Wars trilogy is the love triangle between Han, Luke, and Leia. Cringey and incestuous as it may seem in hindsight, the horny energy between the three leads made for a hilarious and titillating scenario that has become as iconic as R2-D2. While Harrison Ford, Luke Skywalker, and Carrie Fisher have all played central roles to this new Disney Star Wars trilogy, we still haven't seen much by way of romance in Episodes 7, 8, and 9. Actually, unless you count the enigmatic connection between Rey and Kylo Ren, or the awkward kiss between Rose Tico and Finn, there hasn't really been any love in the sequel trilogy at all. According to this new leak reported on MovieWeb.com, that will all change in Rise of Skywalker.
So we already know that Rose Tico is interested in Finn romantically. At the end of Last Jedi, she all but admits that she loves the John Boyega character before going comatose following their collision on the planet Crait. MovieWeb says that romantic interest will be complicated by a new female character in Episode IX: Jannah, who's played by Naomi Ackie. The new character will reportedly form a "close bond" with Finn in Rise of Skywalker. MovieWeb's leak points toward the connection being deep yet platonic, but if I know anything about Star Wars, I have a hunch that Finn and Jannah may be more than friends in this new film–especially based on what the leak says about the new characters' ancestry.
According to the leak, Jannah and Finn will be tasked on a mission together involving General Pryde's Super Star Destroyer. MovieWeb says Jannah will also have a personal vendetta against the First Order, having been a former Stormtrooper herself. It's Jannah who will bring Lando out of retirement, and according to the leak, it's been all but confirmed that Lando is Jannah's father. MovieWeb writes:
General Pryde's Super Star Destroyer is the rumored target of Finn and Jannah's mission, and it will reportedly be revealed that she was either a former Stormtrooper or that they once tried to kidnap her, and she made an escape. However that plays out, she has a vendetta against the First Order and their Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. Part of this rumor also hints that Kylo Ren discovers Emperor Palpatine while investigating the unknown regions for the source of Snoke's power.
The site writes that Finn may also be Lando's child. This would make Finn and Jannah brother and sister–it's only a question of whether they both know this or not. It took about two whole movies in the original trilogy for Luke and Leia to learn this about each other. So, relatively speaking, it may take a while, putting Rose, Finn, and Jannah in a very awkward new love triangle.
And, we shouldn't forget, Finn has already expressed a lot of romantic interest in another female character in the new trilogy: Rey. Force Awakens was all about the connection between the two, and as MovieWeb writes, "It is also being leaked that Finn has some deep feelings for Rey, but the Jedi my not be reciprocating those feelings. It's not yet clear if the former Stormtrooper will get to share his crush with Rey before things come to a head." So what we're looking at here may be even more involved than a love triangle. It could be four people wrapped up in this mess. So, a love square? And what about all the "Reylo" theories? God, this is getting confusing.
Rise of Skywalker debuts on December 20, 2019. So we have about three months until we find out what the deal is with these horny Rebels.
