It's been almost a year since Starbucks devotees everywhere got their hands on the blue-and-pink sugary majesty that was the Unicorn Frappuccino. For a single week last April, Instagram feeds were awash with pink-powder-topped whipped cream, and drinkers marveled at the treat's color-changing properties. Now the coffee chain is set to release another limited-edition, extremely photogenic drink: the Crystal Ball Frappuccino.
Though Starbucks hasn't released any official info on its latest concoction, baristas are already sharing their trial runs on Instagram. One photo shows off the treat's variety of sugared-toppings colors, with green, red, and blue edible crystals adorning whipped cream. Another photo highlights the turquoise swirls the Frappuccino is rumored to feature. The reportedly peach-flavored drink will be available for purchase on Thursday, March 22, but be warned: It will remain on the menu for only four days (or until supplies are depleted), according to Business Insider.
This won't be the first attempt to riff on the magic that was the Unicorn Frappuccino, a drink so instantly iconic it inspired Unicorn Frappuccino hair and even a Unicorn Frappuccino candle. As demand for the unicorn drinks began to outweigh the supply of its ingredients at Starbucks, some baristas created the Dragon Frappuccino, a green-and-purple beverage with a Green Tea Frap base. Later, the Mermaid Frappuccino, made with Vanilla Bean Frappuccino, green-tea powder, and dried blackberries, was born. So while the Crystal Ball Frappuccino may just be a limited-time option at Starbucks, if it's anything like its mythical predecessor, it could spark new creations from inventive baristas for months to come.
