Steel companies mixed in Q2

Topping views for a per-share loss of 4 cents, AK Steel Holding (AKS) said Q2 earnings were 2 cents a share, up from a 30-cent loss last year. Revenue rose 9% to $1.53 bil, topping views for $1.51 bil. U.S. Steel (X) reported adjusted per-share earnings of 17 cents ex items, up from a 54-cents-per-share loss in '13 and beating views for a loss of 29 cents a share. The steel company's revenue dipped 0.7% to $4.4 bil. AKS shares rose 2.2% to 8.96. U.S. Steel fell 0.6% to 27.67.
