Steelers TE Ladarius Green eyes Week 7 season debut

Ladarius Green has yet to play a game for the Pittsburgh Steelers after signing as a free agent this offseason.

Pittsburgh Steelers fans may not have to wait much longer to watch free-agent acquisition Ladarius Green make his season debut.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Green is expected to return to the practice field next week with intentions of playing Week 7 against the New England Patriots.

Green signed a 4-year, $20 million deal this offseason after displaying big-play potential while sharing the spotlight alongside Antonio Gates with the San Diego Chargers. However, Green was placed on the physically unable to perform list before the regular season because of an ankle injury that required surgery in January.

Though the ankle injury was likely a part of the reason he was sidelined, there were also reports swirling that Green considered retiring because of issues with concussions.

Head coach Mike Tomlin disputed those claims, and the Steelers are now just glad to finally see their new playmaker in action.

“It’s awesome, it’s huge,” guard David DeCastro said about Green's return to the field. “The stories you hear about him and watching him on tape, he’s a tremendous athlete. Anytime you get another weapon like that, someone else for Ben to get the ball to it’s only going to help us out.”

Opposing teams will hardly be excited. The Steelers (4-1) have put 30-plus points on the board in three out of their five games. Le'Veon Bell is back in the fold after his suspension, and wide receiver Sammie Coates stepped last week to take pressure off Antonio Brown.

Green's return will make this team even more dangerous. It's possible Week 7's matchup against the Patriots could be an AFC championship preview.
