The Northfield, Illinois-based company said it had net income of $1.07 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.31 per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.26 per share.
The specialty chemicals company posted revenue of $489.2 million in the period.
Stepan Co. shares have climbed 23% since the beginning of the year. The stock has climbed 26% in the last 12 months.
