U.S. stocks were in the red on Tuesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.28% to 25,826, the S&P 500 Index declined 0.19% to 2,873 and the Nasdaq Composite Index dipped 0.24% to 7,834.
Shares of Anaplan Inc. (NYSE:PLAN) fell more than 5.5% after announcing second-quarter results. The software company posted a loss of 12 cents per share on $84.54 million in revenue, reflecting 46.2% growth from the prior-year quarter. The company beat earnings estimates by 4 cents and revenue expectations by $6.27 million.
"We had another great quarter of outstanding growth and execution," CEO Frank Calderoni said. "More customers are choosing us because of the value they see with connecting their entire enterprise."
The GAAP operating loss was $41.2 million, or 48.7% of total revenue, which was up from $19.9 million, or 34.5% of total revenue, in the prior-year quarter. Further, the non-GAAP operating loss was $16.6 million, or 19.7% of total revenue, compared to $17 million, or 29.3% of total revenue.
Looking ahead to the third quarter, the company expects revenue to be between $85.5 million and $86.5 million and the non-GAAP operating margin in the range of -19% to 20%.
During the quarter ended June 30, Jim Simons (Trades, Portfolio)' Renaissance Technologies established a new position, buying 266,900 shares. Philippe Laffont boosted his stake by 34% to 12,110,110 shares, while Frank Sands (Trades, Portfolio) reduced his holding by 89% to 159,821 shares.

The main European stock markets traded mostly higher. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 dipped 0.08%, France's CAC 40 rose 0.67%, Germany's Dax swelled 0.62% and Spain's IBEX 35 gained 0.57%.
In Asia, Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 0.96%, India's BSE Sensex rose 0.39%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.06% and China's Shanghai Composite climbed 1.35%.
