It's hard to beat Ikea for home-decor affordability, and if budget is a concern for you, there's no denying it. But honestly, once you've seen a million Billy bookcases and Hemnes dressers in your friends' homes, you start to crave a little...personality. So it's no wonder that Ikea "hacks," in which standard, off-the-shelf products from the Swedish superstore are customized to make them unique, have become such a big phenomenon.

The best Ikea hacks have always seemed kind of unattainable, though—few people have that kind of skill (or time!). We just want our homes to look nice without going broke, OK? That's why a new design showroom in London is out to make hacked Ikea kitchen spaces accessible to all, even the craft-impaired: The Ikea-kitchen customizations available through Hølte are sleek, modern, and high quality, and the results look professional because they are professional.

Hølte designers Tom and Fi Ginnett already owned a high-end kitchen-design firm when they decided, in 2017, that good design and high quality should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford bespoke creations. "We believe that a beautiful, tactile, and highly functional kitchen can be at the centre of some of life’s best bits," they say on Hølte's website. "This is why we have made it our mission to help you create this space in your home."

As Tom and Fi well know, from-scratch custom cabinetry is expensive. So with Hølte, you plan out a kitchen design at your local Ikea using their affordable basics, and then customize from there. Hølte offers a wide range of cabinet fronts, six different kinds of handles in multiple finishes, and lots of countertop options in either quartz, granite, or stainless steel. Simply choose whatever combination you like for an Ikea kitchen that's creative, not cookie-cutter!

The best part is, there's now a real brick-and-mortar showroom where you can see Hølte's hacks in person (actually feel the countertop surface! open and close the cabinets for yourself!)—well, if you're in London, that is. Regardless, check out their Instagram to let the inspiration wash over you, whether you're inspired to do it yourself or hire them to do it for you.
