Storenvy Reaches 50,000 Stores and More Than $2.5 Million in Monthly Sales

Leadership Team Hires Include Creative, Merchandising, Brand and Marketing Leaders From Eventbrite, Seamless, Wantful & Yelp

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Aug 7, 2013) - Storenvy, where the world's most original and unique people buy, sell and share the things they love, today announced it has grown to more than 50,000 active stores, more than one million registered members and has monthly sales of more than $2.5 million. Plans to continue rapid growth are marked by the build out of a leadership dream team including key hires that bring decades of collective experience from successful startups such as Yelp, Seamless.com and Eventbrite. Storenvy's recent milestones follow the launch of its Marketplace in December 2012 and a Series A financing led by First Round Capital, Intel Capital and Spark Capital in February 2013.

CEO and founder Jon Crawford started Storenvy in 2010 after being struck by the difficulty that independent businesses faced in setting up online stores. He realized that e-commerce hadn't caught up to the rest of the social web and focused his passion on making it more accessible, authentic and human. Storenvy is now home to over 50,000 unique and original businesses and artists who create, make, curate and sell amazing things -- ranging from music, to art, to fashion -- on their own branded websites and through the Storenvy Marketplace at Storenvy.com.

While 50,000+ unique and original stores would seem a success in itself, Crawford isn't settling. "Since 2010, we've seen sustained, month-over-month growth of ten percent in new stores launched on our platform. That's huge, but we're just getting started. Most of the world's small businesses aren't online yet, and we want to change that." Crawford says the world is a better place with original and unique businesses and he's passionate about bringing those businesses to life and introducing them to the world.

That dedication has also served Crawford well in wading through the most difficult hiring market in years. Striving to put together a great team, Crawford says his six-month search was well worth it. "I worked tirelessly to put together a killer leadership team of experienced startup vets to help build a beautiful, community-driven marketplace for the world's amazing stores," he says. Crawford has come out on top, ultimately bringing on what he affectionately calls the "Storenvy Directorate:"

  • Brock Cady - Director of Merchandising, formerly of Wantful

  • Kelsey Flittner - Director of Marketing, formerly of Seamless

  • Nish Nadaraja - Director of Brand Growth, formerly of Yelp

  • Tricia Choi - Creative Director, formerly of Eventbrite

Of the leadership team, he points out that, "Storenvy's appeal isn't just in salaries or kegs on Friday, but in being part of something that really matters. We're changing how businesses, artists and consumers think about shopping, commerce, and discovery. We're working on some pretty awesome stuff."

With a growing number of stores and sales, an engaged user base (Storenvy sees more than 1.5 million "Envies" of marketplace products a month), an experienced leadership team and notable integration deals, Storenvy won't be a quiet success story for long. Crawford says, "If we can continue to tell our store owners' stories, bring them to life and introduce them to the world, then we'll really have something to Envy."

  • More than one million registered shoppers
