Suddath Hires Corby Lawrence for New Role of Regional Managing Director, Mobility Market Development

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Suddath Companies, a leader in global transportation and relocation, announces a key addition to its Global Moving Services (GMS) business unit with the appointment of Charles "Corby" Lawrence as regional managing director – mobility market development. Lawrence will hold direct responsibility for GMS business development initiatives in the Mid-Atlantic market. In this strategic role, he will drive direct sales and sales management activities, building GMS revenues in B2B and B2C sales channels. Lawrence will be based in Washington, D.C. and will report to Mark Burchell, president of Suddath's GMS business unit.

Prior to joining Suddath, Lawrence was senior vice president for global mobility services at Security Storage Company of Washington, which Suddath acquired in November 2015. Founded in 1890, Security Storage is the oldest global logistics, relocation and moving services company in Washington, D.C. Lawrence oversaw P&L responsibilities for its moving services business unit, managed more than 60 people and was responsible for creating over $20 million in new business. Earlier, Lawrence held advanced positions in the communications technologies industry and spent five years in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a missile launch officer. He earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics at Citadel Military College and his MBA at University of Maryland's University College.

"Washington, D.C. is one of the fastest growing and significant markets for our industry globally, and our acquisition of Security Storage greatly bolstered our capabilities in the areas of high-end moving and storage, as well as international mobility," said Burchell. "Corby brings decades of experience understanding the specific needs of business, consumer and government clients in this region, which should be instrumental in helping us expand our presence."

Over the past few years, Suddath has made substantial investments in this market. Its Washington, D.C. area operations are in Dulles, Va., Forestville, Md., and Baltimore, Md.  In addition to hiring Lawrence and other leaders from Security Storage, Suddath also recently hired six executives from Washington, D.C.-based Office Movers when its parent company, The Kane Company, filed for bankruptcy. Suddath now has 116 employees throughout its Mid-Atlantic offices.
