Suncor Energy: 4Q Earnings Snapshot

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Suncor Energy Inc. (SU) on Tuesday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $211.9 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had a loss of 14 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 27 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 38 cents per share.

The energy company posted revenue of $6.77 billion in the period, also missing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $8.13 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.49 billion, or $1.53 per share. Revenue was reported as $29.5 billion.

Suncor Energy shares have increased 18 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped 2 percent in the last 12 months.
