Sunglass Nails Are the Manicure Trend You Need to Know About This Minute

Liz Ritter

Summer may be over, but nails are hanging on to the sunny season with a very RayBan-esque nail trend.

As first reported on by Refinery29, Painbox’s creative director Julie Kandalec discovered this decidedly “sunglass-like” look at a jewelry store in Seoul three days ago. The image, which she posted on Instagram with the caption, “TREND ALERT Sunglass nails spotted in Korea. Who wants them first?!!” has everyone buzzing. The best part? The #nofilter tag she threw on the super shiny, super futuristic nails that totally look like brown-mirrored lenses.

Kandalec also shared with Refinery: “It's so incredibly eye-catching, and it changes colors as you look at it—kind of like how RayBans and fall leaves do. Plus, chrome nails as we know them are done with an extremely fine pigment. The final effect is super cool, but the application process is very messy. To me, this looks more like a single nail covering, which would make it a one-step process.”

So, while we are bracing ourselves for a whole bunch of new shades hitting shelves to replicate this look, Kandalec advised, for now, to take the photo to a nail tech if you want to create something similar with chrome pigment.
