While Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the NFL MVP honors for the 2018 season, he is still playing on his rookie contract. As a result, the star of Kansas City’s offense took home less than $2 million in cash for the 2019 season, which is a total that didn’t crack the top 10 among Chiefs players, according to Spotrac.
Mahomes’ counterpart, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, ranked third among his team’s highest-paid players for the 2019 season. The two highest-paid players on both the 49ers and the Chiefs play on the defensive side of the ball.
The 49ers spent $221 million on their roster for the 2019 season, more than any other NFL team. The Chiefs spent $167 million, the least of any team in the league.
