'Supergirl' First Look: James Olsen Suits Up as Guardian – Get the Scoop on His New Vigilante Status!

Step aside, Supergirl! There's a new crime-fighter in National City…

James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) is officially putting the camera down and picking up the indestructible shield as the DC Comic vigilante, Guardian, in season two of Supergirl.

On Wednesday, The CW released the first image of James dressed in his crime-fighting best, which includes some very sleek-looking body armor and a helmet that covers up everything but his piercing eyes.

"James has a pretty big turn coming up," Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said of James' new role to a small group of reporters on Tuesday." These next few episodes are going to make him realize that being a photographer is not enough for him."

"James is going to decide that he can no longer sit back and be a sidekick, so he's going to decide to become a vigilante and he's going to become Guardian -- complete with the shield," Kreisberg added.

As comic book fans know, Guardian was a Metropolis police officer named James Harper, who took on the role of a masked vigilante in order to take down the criminals he couldn't arrest during his day job. Guardian is notable for having no superpowers, but did use the aforementioned indestructible shield.

To make things even more exciting, this new after-dark activity is going to be the perfect catalyst for some seriously bro-tastic moments between James and Winn. "He's recruited Winn to help him -- Winn is his man in the van -- so the two of them are doing this together," Kreisberg beamed. "Winn and James together is comedy gold."

The showrunner continued, "Watching Winn -- as he takes his job at the DEO, but then he's lying to everybody about how he's spending his nights because he's going out with James, and how he walks in exhausted or walks in with a black eye and says he walked into a door -- is the fun excitement of building these first 10 episodes."

Unfortunately for James, not everyone is going to be so quick to embrace his crime-fighting hobby – especially his former flame.

"It's going to cause a massive problem in his relationship with Kara because he has decided not to tell her," Kreisberg spilled. "Now there's this new masked vigilante, and she has her own feelings about vigilantes, and it becomes a push-and-pull about who gets to decide who gets to be a hero."

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.
