Target customers will be able to get free two-day shipping during the holiday shopping season.
All three companies also offer pickup services for orders placed online.
Target has launched the latest salvo in the online shopping wars. The mega-retailer announced it will offer free two-day shipping from Nov. 1 to Dec. 22. There are hundreds of thousands of items eligible for free two-day shipping; there isn’t a minimum order requirement and you don’t need a membership.
This offer takes direct aim at online behemoth Amazon and discount retail giant Walmart. At least for now, Target’s shipping offer is the best for consumers. Here’s how the shipping, delivery and pickup options compare for the big three.
Here are details on two-day shipping through Target, Walmart and Amazon:
Free two-day shipping on hundreds of thousands of items for the holiday season. The offer begins Nov. 1 and goes until Dec. 22.
Free two-day shipping on select items. The minimum order is $35 to qualify.
Free two-day shipping on most items that ship from Amazon. A Prime membership, which costs $119 per year, is required.
Same-Day Local Pickup
Here are the options for same-day local pickup with the three retailers:
Drive Up Service — Order online, drive to the store and an employee will bring your order to your car. This service will be expanded to almost 1,000 stores by the end of October.
Free Same-Day Pickup — Order online, pick up at the store the same day.
Same-Day Pickup — Available for some items, for orders placed before noon. Free for eligible items. Locations are limited.
Here are the same-day delivery options available:
Available for 55,000 items in 200 markets. This service is offered by Shipt, which Target purchased last year.
Available for groceries only. Flat fee of $9.95 with a minimum order of $30. You can get free delivery on your first delivery order until Jan. 31, 2019.
Available in over 8,000 cities and towns for over 1 million items. Available on qualifying orders over $35. Orders must be placed by noon.
Target seems to have the advantage in the shipping wars — for the moment. Other companies might answer with deals of their own, but, no matter what, the holiday shopper will be the big winner as they get their purchases faster and cheaper than ever before.
