Taylor Swift's mother, Andrea, has been battling cancer for some time now and even inspired Swift's song, "Soon You'll Get Better," but according to a new interview with Variety, the family was rocked by bad news. Doctors found a brain tumor while Andrea was undergoing her second round of treatment for breast cancer.

"While she was going through treatment, they found a brain tumor. And the symptoms of what a person goes through when they have a brain tumor is nothing like what we've ever been through with her cancer before. So it's just been a really hard time for us as a family," Swift said.

Swift has been open about her mother's treatment in the past and Variety adds that the family's struggles will be documented in Swift's Netflix show, Taylor Swift: Miss Americana. Swift adds that she was hesitant to share this part of her life, but she insisted that it could be helpful to fans that were going through anything similar.

"Everyone loves their mom; everyone's got an important mom," she said. "But for me, she's really the guiding force. Almost every decision I make, I talk to her about it first. So obviously it was a really big deal to ever speak about her illness."

Andrea's diagnosis also affected Swift's decision to shorten her tour. Instead of the record-breaking blowout extravaganza she had with her last album, she's only having a few shows in America and heading to Europe on a festival circuit. She adds that fans are respecting her decision and supporting the choice.

"I've got some pretty intense things happening with my family right now," she said during an appearance on Beats 1. "I can't go on a long tour that I can't go home to my family for. This is where the rubber meets the road. I have to make decisions. I have to have breathing room in my touring schedule. I have priorities that aren't just touring now. The fans have been really respectful of that. I have to make decisions where there's uncertainties in my life and things are important to my family. I have to be able to have breathing room in my touring schedule."
